Before You Start, make sure you have the following details to hand:
- Email address
- Email password
- Incoming mail server (POP or IMAP)
- Outgoing mail server (SMTP)
Step 1: Open Mail Settings
- Open Mail on your Mac
- In the top menu, click Mail → Settings (or Preferences on older macOS versions)
- Select the Accounts tab
Step 2: Add a New Account
- Click the + (plus) button at the bottom left
- Choose Other Mail Account
- Click Continue
Step 3: Enter Basic Account Details
Enter:
- Name – This is the sender name recipients will see
- Email Address – Your full email address
- Password – Your email password
- Click Sign In
You may see a red warning – this is normal, as it can’t find the account settings automatically, continue on with the setup.
Step 4: Choose POP or IMAP & Server Settings
You’ll be asked to enter them manually.
Incoming Mail Server
- Account Type: Choose IMAP (recommended) or POP
- Mail Server (POP): pop.freecom.net
- Mail Server (IMAP): imap.freecom.net
- User Name: Full email address
- Password: Email password
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
- Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.freecom.net
- User Name: Full authentication username (different from your incoming username)
- Password: authentication password (different from your incoming password)
- Click Sign In
Step 5: Complete Setup
Once verified, click Done
Your mailbox will now appear in the left-hand sidebar. Allow a few minutes for emails to sync.
